Jointer shopsmith model numbers
I paid $900, but got the "510" model, the band saw, scroll saw, little 4" jointer, belt sander, and a standalone Shopsmith brand planer that is quite nice. You can get a decent working one in most places for under $500, sometimes well under. They're finicky, but well made enough that you can get them back into alignment without too much fuss.ĮDIT: But don't spend too much on a Shopsmith restore. If you have space and budget for bigger standalones, then there's no real reason to indoctrinate yourself into the Shopsmith cult. That same table that's too small for a table saw is like heaven for a drill press or sander, as is the crank speed changer. If your alternative is a pile of junky benchtop tools from Ryobi, Wen, or Harbor Freight, then fix up the Shopsmith. I like the band saw, scroll saw, and belt sander attachments as well, but good lord that scroll saw is heavy to lug around and plop onto the side of the main unit. I've only had occasion to use it in horizontal mode a couple of times, but that was nice.
Like it as a lathe, since that bug has never quite hit me, but I know the capability is there.ĭislike it as a table saw, and haven't used one as my main TS in years this goes double for the smaller table on the Mark V model 500. Love it as a drill press and disc sander, except for the footprint. No top-level wood ID, low effort, or price queries
